Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works as a commentator for NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as the Philadelphia reporter in 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed which was based in Washington DC. In Washington, she was appointed general correspondent by NBC News two year later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988, she became head of the congressional reporters. She was appointed as the head White House correspondent by NBC News in 1992. Mitchell is a former panelist, as well as host of the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debate in 1988 among George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell got married to Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in journalism. In 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's initial White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. It was a time when the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. She covered many notable reports, including weapons control, the budget tax and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
