Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial attempts to become an established star failed. Two different record labels signed her but dropped her before she had released any music. Capitol Records, however, released Perry's Ur So Gay album in 2007 which was received with moderate success for the title track. The song I Kissed a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism accompanied by a hard edged electronic-pop beat. Many critics accused the track of promoting homosexual relationships and others believed that its racy depiction was intended to attract male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl's combination of excitement, a polished tune and an enthralling chorus made the song become a top 10 hit across a range of countries. This led to the album The One of the Boys (2007) which was a huge success. The album's 2nd single Hot N Cold also proving popular the album much of which Perry composed herself, eventually saw greater than three million copies in the United States.
